Moody's Bistro, Truckee

Last night I had another fabulous meal at my favorite restaurant in Truckee: Moody’s, where Executive Chef Mark Estee’s mantra is: “Fresh. Seasonal. Simple. Local.”

Starting the delicious dining experience with a bottle of Gloria Ferrer champagne, I continued on to the amuse bouche of an eggplant tapenade-type taste on a cracker, then the Surf Duo of grilled slippertail and house-cured hamachi with avocado , grapefruit vinaigrette and wasabi tobiko.

I was very glad to be waited on by Diana, who consistently makes excellent food and wine recommendations.

It was at her suggestion that I ordered the arugula frisee salad, even though I’m usually more of a fan arugula. With warm smoked bacon dressing, including generous pieces (see picture) of flavorful bacon luxuriating on the sides of the salad mound, hard-cooked eggs and carmelized onions … this dish really amazed and delighted me.

On Diana’s further recommendation, I chose the pear puff for dessert and was pleased as well. Poached pear, almond cream (delicious!), cinnamon whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and the puff created a very enjoyable ending to one more wonderful meal at my favorite place to eat in Truckee!

Dinner from 5:30 p.m. nightly

Trio Wine Bar, Truckee

This is one of my favorite places in Truckee because it has big, beautiful windows looking south and east toward Mt. Rose, wonderful light, easy parking, great wines by the glass (including champagne!), a delicious ahi entree and other appetizers and entrees, as well as an elegant front room with a beautiful Carrera marbletop table.

Marcus at the bar is friendly and helpful too.

The bar opens at 4:00 p.m., and the kitchen at 5. Trio also offers local art and music. Fridays are open mic night starting at 8 p.m.

Trio Wine Bar
is an upscale wine bar and lounge located in the famous and historic (Italianate-style) Kruger-White House on the north side of Donner Pass Road between old downtown Truckee and the roundabout; and nestled among the historic homes of Truckee that are now shops.

West Shore Cafe, Homewood, Lake Tahoe

I had a delicious lunch the other day here: ahi tuna carpaccio with cucumber, radish, watercress and white soy-sesame dressing, and all with a glass of Gruet champagne! I basked in the delicious experience of watching and listening to the waves lap on the pebbles, looking east to Incline Village and Kings Beach and south to Heavenly and South Lake.

Fabulous food on the lake ... the best place on the North and West shores I've found so far.

A plus, too, is live guitar ... my favorites were songs from Frank Sinatra and Sting.
